Mr Pierre Roger Efandene Bekono


Born on March 27, 1945 at Nkolessas-Meyomessala, Mr. EFANDENE BEKONO Pierre Roger hails from the South Region of the Republic of Cameroon.

After attending university education at the ‘Centre National d’Etudes Agronomiques des Régions Chaudes’ in Montpellier, France from 1981 to 1983, he obtained an Engineering Diploma in Agricultural Techniques, majoring in Plant Protection. Then from 1983 to 1985, he enrolled into the ‘Université des Sciences et Techniques’ of Languedoc in Montpellier, France where he obtained a Diploma, Advanced Studies in Agronomic Science, specializing in Crop Science, and majoring in Weed Science. Ultimately, he obtained a ‘Doctorat de 3ème Cycle’ in Plant Protection, specialising in Plant Pathology, majoring in Plant Virology after studies from 1990 to 1995, at the African Centre for Phytosanitary Research and Training in the University of Dschang.

Prior to his appointment as member of the Electoral Board in 2008, he had occupied key positions like:

  • Teacher at the Abong-Mbang Technical Agriculture School / Lecturer in Special Crops, Topography and Laboratory Work, from 1967 to 1969;
  • Senior Chief of Agricultural Post for the Abong-Mbang Sub-Division, from 1969 to 1970; 
  • Chief of Tekmo-Sangmelima Agricultural Post, from 1970 to 1972;
  • Employee of the Ministry of Agriculture, Central Division for Rural Development/Agricultural Education Service in Yaounde, from 1974 to 1975;
  • Teacher at the Ebolowa Technical Agriculture School in Special Crops, Mechanical Agriculture and Bioclimatology, from 1975 to 1977;
  • Head of the East Provincial Phytosanitary Base at Abong-Mbang, from 1977 to 1981;
  • Bureau Head of Weed Science and Other Phytosanitary Activities at the Phytosanitary Interventions Service of the Sub-Department of Plant Protection, Department of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, from 1985 to 1988;
  • Head of the East Provincial Phytosanitary Base at Abang-Abang, from 1988 to 1990;
  • Assistant Permanent Secretary of the Assistance Management Committee, Food and Agricultural Organisation of the Assistance Management/World Food Programme in Yaounde, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, from 1995.

This General Engineer in Agriculture is:

  • Commander of the National Order of Valour;
  • Officer of the National Order of Valour;
  • Knight of the National Order of Valour.

On January 29, 2009, he took the following oath of office before the Constitutional Council: “I swear to fully and faithfully discharge my duties and to exercise my office without fear or favour in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force, to ensure the confidentiality of proceedings and votes, to abstain from taking public positions and to decline any consultation on matters falling within the purview of Elections Cameroon.”
