Born in 1946 at Balatchi in the Bamboutos Division, Mgr. Dieudonné WATIO is a native of the West Region in Republic of Cameroon.

After university and post-graduate studies in Philosophy and Theology from 1969 to 1975, Dieudonné WATIO was ordained on July 5, 1975 at Mbouda. From then till 1982 the prelate has accomplished his priesthood as Vicar, Priest, Chaplain and Lecturer. From 1982 to 1986, he undertook specialised studies in Sacramental Theology at the Catholic University of Paris, followed by studies in Comparative History of Religions at the University of Paris Sorbonne.

As a holder of a Bachelor’s Degree, Maîtrise and a ‘Diplôme d’Etudes Approfondies en Théologie’ of the Catholic University of Paris, he further obtained a PhD in Comparative History of Religions at the University of Sorbonne.

Within the framework of the ministry of Jesus, prior to his appointment as member of the Electoral Board on July 11, 2011, Mgr. Dieudonné WATIO accomplished his priesthood as Seminary Rector and College Principal among others:

  • Expert in the Synod of Bishops in Rome in 1994;
  • Bishop of Nkongsamba from April 1, 1995;
  • Bishop of Bafoussam from March 5, 2011.

On July 21, 2011, he took the following oath of office before the Constitutional Council: “I swear to fully and faithfully discharge my duties and to exercise my office without fear or favour in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force, to ensure the confidentiality of proceedings and votes, to abstain from taking public positions and to decline any consultation on matters falling within the purview of Elections Cameroon.”
