Rev. Dr. Dieudonné MASSI GAMS

Rev. Dr. Dieudonné Massi Gams


Born on November 29, 1953 at Batouri, Rev. Dr. Dieudonné Massi Gams is a son of the East Region in the Republic of Cameroon.

After university studies, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology, in 1997, at the Faculty of Protestant Theology and Religious Sciences, Yaounde. In 1998, he obtained a Maîtrise at the same faculty and on May 21, 1995, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Theology at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary USA. On July 31, 1997, Rev. Dr. Dieudonné MASSI GAMS obtained a PhD in Theology at the Faculty of Protestant Theology and Religious Sciences at the Protestant University of Central Africa.

His professional career, prior to his appointment in 2008 as member of the Electoral Board, had taken Rev. Dr. Dieudonné Massi Gams through the following positions:

  • Moderator of the ‘Eglise Presbytérienne Camerounaise’ (EPC) Kambélé and Principal of the Kimbélé Bible School, Batouri, from 1979 to 1981;
  •   Moderator of EPC Bertoua and Head Teacher of the Bertoua EPC Primary School, from 1982 to 1985;
  • Moderator East Synod, Moderator Bertoua Station Church, Sector Chief of EPC schools in East Cameroon from 1986 to 1990;
  • Moderator of the 34th General Assembly of EPC in 1991;
  • Assistant Lecturer, Ecclesiastic History, Faculty of Protestant Theology and Religious Sciences - Yaounde and Moderator East Synod, from 1995 to 1997;
  • Chair Professor of Ecclesiastic History at the Protestant University of Central Africa, from 1997 to date;
  • Visiting Professor at the ‘Institut Supérieur de Théologie’ of Porto-Novo in Benin, from 1997 to date;
  • Provincial Secretary of the National Elections Observatory Branch for the East, 2002;
  • Elected President of the Alliance of Reformed Churches in Africa and Vice- president of Habitat for Humanity - Cameroon;
  • Appointed by presidential decree as member of the National Elections Observatory for the East Province in 2004. Mandate extended on May 27, 2007 by the Head of State;
  • President of the ‘Editions CLE’  Follow-up Board, from 2004 to 2006;
  • Re-elected Secretary General of EPC to a five year mandate, 2005;
  • Appointed Vice-President of the National Anti-Corruption Commission, April 2007.

Since 2006, Rev. Dr. Dieudonné MASSI GAMS is co-author of the book, ‘histoire du christianisme: quelques fragments’, Editions CLE. 

On January 29, 2009, he took the following oath of office before the Constitutional Council; “I swear to fully and faithfully discharge my duties and to exercise my office without fear or favour in accordance with the Constitution and laws in force, to ensure the confidentiality of proceedings and votes, to abstain from taking public positions and to decline any consultation on matters falling within the purview of Elections Cameroon.”
