368,119 newly-registered electors at the end of the 2023 annual revision of electoral registers

This was the information announced by the Director General of Elections, Erik ESSOUSSE, at a press briefing granted to the media on 1 September 2023 in Yaounde.

At the end of this year's voter registration exercise, 368,119 people were enrolled. This includes 229,896 men, 138,223 women, 255,742 youths and 444 people living with disabilities.

To date, the total number of voters on the uncleansed national electoral register stands at 7,523,184 electors.

Moreover, it should also be noted that 99.47% of the targets set for the 2023 revision of the electoral register have been achieved. Compared with the 2022 revision, there was an increase of 29,743 voters, given an 8.79% rise.

According to the Director General of Elections, the aim of this revision was to register youths, women, people with disabilities, ethnic minorities and indigenous Pygmy and Mbororo peoples.

He took this opportunity to express his satisfaction and praise the efforts of his collaborators in the field. He also thanked the Electoral Board for its effective supervision of this operation, as well as the contribution of the other stakeholders involved in the electoral process in Cameroon.

It should be recalled that, in accordance with Article 74 paragraph 2 of the Electoral Code, operations to revise the electoral register for the year 2023, launched on 1 January, effectively ended on 31 August throughout the national territory.
